My new work blog

Most of my everyday experience is related to my work. I woke up at 6.50, getting into the bus to work at 7.28, arriving at office at 8.25. I get back into the same bus at 6.30 and I am back home at 7.30. 12 hours...

I spend with my son only two and a half hours a day... and most of the times I open the computer during this time to do some of the work I could not finish or do something that I cannot do during work...

Because I spend so much working I decided to create a separate blog where I will write mainly on technical subjects - if I have time :-). The address is http://robert.boerescu.info/. I wanted to do this because I have lots to share about my work. Maybe some of the information will be useful to you, my friends, or maybe you can advise me regarding the things I go trough. I specially need your advice because I really do not now what way I should take in such a fast changing IT world. I am already late with my decision and I am afraid not to take a wrong. one. I am at the point where I should take some specialization.

My choices or either to go deeper into the system support, maybe enlarging my view with some Linux/Unix administration - certification - or extend towards programming and slowly leave the system support part or reduce it to the working knowledge. The reality is that at the moment I do not get much satisfaction from my work and I feel that I can do a lot more than I do right now.

Living in Turkey

Today is the last day of Ramadan. Yes, I live in a Muslim country so I will not speak about Christmas or Easter .

People celebrate these days, they are very happy; finally they can eat after fasting for one month. I cannot feel the same joy, but I was happy to finally have some days off. We were at home this time, we could not go anywhere because of Zuhal’s very busy program. She has just finished her PhD and started to teach some theoretical subjects at university like “visual perception”. She is busy preparing these and also preparing for the admission exam as an assistant to the university.

For a change we moved furniture around the house on Monday. Can has finally a big bed as he is a big boy now. He is very happy with it and his new Superman beddings. However he still prefers to sleep in our bed and we carry him to his bed after he sleeps.

Even after so many years in Turkey I still cannot say that I am very comfortable with the difference in customs and habits here but I try to live with it. Yesterday we went to an engagement party of a relative of Zuhal and I came in touch again with the traditions, folk music and dance. I danced and everyone was surprised (including Zuhal) and happy that I enjoy the folkloric dance. I felt very good. I was amazed seeing Zuhal's auntie who is 68 being so happy and dancing more than the younger participants. I was also pleasantly surprised how well educated are the children in their respect towards the others and towards the elders. They take care of each other and older brothers look after the youngest ones in a very mature manner that really surprised me. This is I think the result of living in a small community and is something that it is very difficult to achieve in a big city like Ankara.

New components

Today I added a comment component to my site so visitors could add comments to the articles. I think it is a necessary component for a blog. Also I removed the old guestbook and installed a new one that is more successful in preventing spam messages. Both components are moderated.
The only thing left to do is to write more often .

I am back

After a long period of silence I decided to update my site. I uploaded some new pictures and the design of some modules.
The fact that I do not write much on this blog is due to two factors: first I do not have much time, second, I am not much used to share what I think, maybe because I do not consider it important enough to be said or written.
I have however a great example, Valentin’s blog. Thanks Vali.
I will try to write more often.

Move to a new host

Today I moved the site to a new hosting company. It was not easy because I use a dynamic site. I had to move the database and thousands of php files. There are still some errors but they will be corrected soon.

Istanbul weekend

I spent last weekend with my family in Istanbul. We visited the Picasso exhibition - we had to stay in the queue for more than an hour for this, in the rain, but I think it worth it. Istanbul is a nice city but so much crowded. I put some pictures in the photo area for you...
